There is a quiet sort of certainty

In disappearing.

Perhaps only for an hour. Perhaps for days. Or in the relative scale of things.

Longer.

Into the shadows of the long-in-it's-own-right road.

And there is a certain sort of catharsis

In leaving.

Just for a trip to the store. Or to see the sunrise. Or in the relative scale of things.

Further.

Because for the strangest of reasons,

the multitude of them from a place we don't always listen to, Until they shout so loudly the clamoring throws us from the slumber of our apathy,

We suddenly bolt upright and realize that where we are,

is not necessarily where we are supposed to be.

So silently

we tiptoe between the reasons to stay,

and slip gently into the night.

For a trip to the store.

Or to see the sunrise.

Or perhaps, if so sufficiently jarred by the plenary of awakening voices, in the relative scale of things, we may go further yet.

We may, in relative terms, choose not to return

until we have gone far enough to forget why we left in the first place and what we left to find after that.

If so, The Highway will always lead the way as far as we wish to go. And then it will bring us back again, too.
